    I'm considering purchasing
a out of the box home theatre
setup. Does anyone have any recommendations
for under $500 and under $800.

    Thanks,
    Aaron Armstrong

PHILIPS LX-3500D may be a good choice for you.
Compare to PIONEER models with progressive scan,PHILIPS saves you alot.

I answer on the basics forum - try out the Onkyo HT-S650. You really need to listen to it. The sub is very good in this price range and the sound is very clean, and, to my ears, very real. On LOTR, it shakes the house. I auditioned everything Best Buy and Circuit City had available before choosing. The 650 does not have a dvd player, but Onkyo is adding two new systems centered on the 650, but adding dvd players. I recommend you check them out. As you close in on $1,000, though, I bet separates could give you better sound for the money. Just remember, upgraded cables will run you another $100 or so. Then, there are speaker stands and mounts to deal with.
