This is the first time in quite a while I've heard of a studio release being done in non-anamorphic widescreen. I've been waiting for this flick on DVD for years and now that it's finally here it'll be a rental at best. OK, so DVD File claims it'll include an uncut version of the film I've never seen, so I'll definitly be renting it. But I'm still not gonna purchase it and that irks me, anyone else?

That is indeed sad news. I now only buy rarely DVDs since I have switched to Netflix. But 'Alive' would certainly have found its way into my collection, had it been anamorphic.

There's really no excuse for releasing non-anamorphic transfers at this stage in the game.

Then again, it could very well be an error on the part of DVDFile.

Hopefully it's just a mistake over at the File.
If not, color me very disappointed about this title :frowning:

Keep in mind though that it is coming from Disney which, on their live action films, don't seem to care. We shall see...

It could be like Boondock Saints... Fox released it in the US with a non-anamorphic transfer, but apparently because they couldn't get ahold of the source material to make a new transfer, or they weren't allowed to.
And we all know Fox has an Anamorphic-Only policy.

But for this, I bet it's just a mistake in the press release. Disney seems to have a habit of misdirecting or leaving out important information... intentionally or otherwise.

Chris.

Someone at Mobius just mentioned that the new Ninth Configuration disc from Warner is also nonanamorphic. It seems that studio backliding is not limited to going pan & scan.....

Green Dragon from Columbia/Tristar is also a new movie that is not anamorphic. I sure hope this is not a new trend.

I love ALIVE too, and if it is non-anamorphic, I'll wait for a DVD release that does it justice.
