If there are no human characters, they can probably get away with a PG-13. Both the predator and alien are alien enough the MPAA would probably go light on the violence.

As much as i'm looking forward to this movie, I still must say that it's really no contest, the Predator would seriously kick the Alien's ass!

Intelligence will always triumph over brute savagry everytime IMO.

I also like Paul Anderson's work. Resident Evil was scary to me, it almost has a Dawn of the Dead feel to it, and Event Horizon shows that Anderson can pull off horror and sci-fi in one film, so I am holding out hope for Alien vs Predator.

I'll take any chance I can get to see another Predator on-screen, as some of you might know he's one of my all time favorite creature creations ever! :)

FOX EXEC: We want sex, we want action, we want violence..
Sure let the Predator rape the Alien, you have all three, depends who you ask.:)
......but seriously this could have worked if Fox would embrace Scott's idea of doing a "prequell",and instead of Earth humans use some type of humanoids, as the "familiars".
This could bring a vareity of new species in, without having to worry about explaining of their origin,as oppose being cooked up on Earth in a lab.
Enough of Ripley already!

Found this at Darkhorizons.com contains spoilers though mild:

Aliens vs. Predator: IGN Filmforce has some juicy SPOILER details on the first part of the script for the long-awaited sci-fi teamup. Here's a short summary of what to expect from the film which has been revealed to take place in the present day - "It seems that structures which pre-date the pyramid civilizations of Egypt and the Americas have been discovered far beneath the Antarctic icecap by satellites. So to explore this finding billionaire Weyland assembles a drill team, specialists in Aztec and Egyptian archaeology, and an environmental scientist. Once inside the pyramids, the group discover disturbing remains including piles of human skeletons with holes in the chest (from Alien "chest-bursters"), and fossilized Alien "face huggers", seems that the temple was either built or infested by Aliens in Earth's distant past. The script pages make no mention of the Predator. It seems that he may show up farther along in the movie. Considering the depth that must be drilled to reach the Aliens, the Predator may be a late arrival who uses the humans' own passage to the temple". Thanks to 'Stax'.
I don't know...
Pyramids???

Mattew, that was one of the funniest post I've ever read!!

John I'm with you all the way. I don't see how the predator could lose the battle with the Alien. The predator has weapons. And on Predator 2 it showed that he hunted Aliens, and had them as a trophy. I never understood why there would be any dispute to who would be the victor.

Matthew, brilliant!

Kristoffer, for what it's worththe early drafts of Alien (the original) had the crew find the Alien eggs in a pyramid shape from some ancient civilization
.

I'll reserve judgement, but lots of alarm bells are ringing. I do not think a snowbound environment would suit either species, but perhaps they could be creative. I would also wonder how they could maintain the right tone for an Alien film while still being PG-13. I was miffed at the amount of off screen violence in RE, but would be quite disappointed given that I am a true fan of the entire Alien series.

Still, perhaps he could pull off a film like Event Horizon (which is the only one of his films I really like).

La Marcus,
I think the challenge is always in numbers. Its usually just a few Predators versus a hive of Aliens. That is what brings the challenge.

The plot that Kristoffer mentions is a complete rip-off of H.P. Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness. From everything I've heard so far, this movie is being made by people with no imagination or originality.

Alex, I figure that would be the context of the fight. But I think that's stupid. Why not have even numbers. In the predator, it was Arnold against the predator. You bring the predator against an alien and it's lights out, even the queen; If the predator can use his weapons. No weapons, the predator and the queen would be one hell of a fight!

Don't forget the idea that facehuggers tend to procreate VERY quickly. I agree that head to head, even #s the predators would kick ass, but 5 or 10 to one??

The story that I read was ;
a bunch of marines on :some planet: see a light in the distance flash through the sky. A couple of weeks goes by and a few of the marines are sitting around when one see the three red dots on his buddies chest BOOM dead. The predator runs over the camp, but finds a couple marines with facehuggers on them. It appear that the preadtors are using the Aliens as game to hone there hunting skills but they went out of control and started multiplying. Now the predators are simply trying to finish there training but are having some trouble.

I can picture the flick in my head, but I don't write well sorry!

Trust me, it was a great read. Late in the movie some mutual cooperation takes place between 2 of the 3 groups...Cool!!

As everybody knows a sequel can make or break a movie series. Predator Vs Aliens would be taking a huge risk in ruining both of the series. This is a crossover of two great franchises that have huge fan bases. Bringing these two huge franchises together into a movie needs a massively skilled team and most importantly a well-known director.

The three important elements to ensure this film going in a positive direction would be a good plot, a great setting, and under the hands of an accomplished director.

I’m not too thrilled with the current plot since the comic book storylines are more engrossing and suspenseful. But then again, translating comic books into movies can be a daunting task. This movie needs to have the ability to sustain tension and develop characterization.

I can't believe that they've actually given the writing and directing duties to this Paul Andreson. His movies are mediocre at best. He doesn’t have the panache of Ridley Scott or the savvy of James Cameron. Pairing Scott and Cameron would be wishful thinking but nevertheless a cinematic dream.

Also, realize that this movie would be an extravaganza of heavily laden special-effects and CGI. Just thinking about the complexity of this enormous project is frightening to say the least.

We just don’t quite yet know what were going to get.

I'm still very eager to see Predator Hybrids (or Pred-Aliens) on screen... These are bad-ass MF's, I kid you not! :D
Hope they include these as the final monster or something - would be VERY COOL!!!
Actually, to celebrate this I've changed my signature! :)

I think any VS film should stay within the campy genre films. They enjoy those. Would you really take terminator vs Robocop. No, because that would make the Terminator series look campy and ruin the name.

Predator may be a dead franchise, but I wouldn't say that it's wrecked, as Predator 2 wasn't a bad movie. A good movie by a skilled director could easily bring it back to life. The protagonists in both movies did not die at the end, and therefore it wouldn't be preposterous to bring either of them back (preferably Arnold). McTiernan has been on a losing streak recently, and I think that a Predator 3 would be a good movie to help get him back on track. He was able to make another Die Hard movie that was a hit, even though that franchise was just as dead as Predator is now, so I think he could do the same thing with the Predator franchise.

Agreed!

It's not like Predator is as popular as the Alien series. In fact, I do believe it's Arnie who made Predator succesful, not the monster itself.

Whereas, Sigourney Weaver was the hero of the Aliens franchise but not entirely the reason for people to go and see the movie.

acording to Darkhorizons.com there will a trailer for this on the new Alien DC in theaters.

But wait a min. they can't have filmed anything yet!
Paul Anderson ( stupid choice for a director. ) is still filming Resident Evil 2 to my knowledge!
Maybe it's just some computer graphics like, the X men 2 teaser.

If they don't faithfully follow the Dark Horse comics I have little real interest.
