I caught this show tonight and was thoroughly engrossed. I thought the writing, and acting was quite good.
Spoiler:The whole double agent thing with SG-6 and the CIA should keep the stories different and interesting. I was hooked when SG-6 killed off her fiance.
Definitely not a warm and fuzzy series. I am looking forward to the next weeks episode.

I agree the writing and acting was quite good, I was totally into it. The only show I was more eagerly anticipating is the Buffy season premiere. The commercial-less of the episode was cool too, although about 9:30 I found myself needing to go the bathroom, yet unable to get off the couch

Last 10 minutes: Spoiler:She goes to her fiance's grave and her father comes by there and tells her the CIA has verified her story and he thanks her for leaving his name out of her CIA report. So he's a double agent too, and their relationship is presumably slightly better now that she's discovered he's also turned on the bad guys.

Generally enjoyable, but I had a semi-major plot gripe:
Spoiler:Having made the decision to off Sidney, SG-6 lets her back in, no questions asked, when she drops off the item they wanted her to get? I would have thought that once the decision was made, there wouldn't be any going back. I don't see how they can trust her now.
I like the overall setup, and but for that one problem, I thought the story was sound.

Craig, I agree with your gripe and can add some more along simular lines:
Spoiler:Once they killed him, they should have killed her too and not even offered her a chance back. After all, she is the one spilling secrets, and after having her fiance killed I don't see how they could trust her anymore.
Also the whole plot point of killing her fiance is ridiculous... its no wonder there are so many double agents as that level of secrecy does more harm than good. Any bets that we find out the girl's mother was killed for the same reasons? (father told her who he was)
The series promises to have lots of twists and turns, but seems a bit over the top.

Amazing show! What a great lead-in for "The Practice"! This show is what "The Agency" and "Dark Angel" should have been.

Wow, this show was amazing. It is definitely a keeper. There are precious few shows I MUST watch each week. They were...
West Wing
The Practise
Enterprise
Well... I now have a fourth. Just an amazing piece of story telling. I, as well, was thoroughly engrossed by the episode.
Spoiler:When the SG-6 story was opened they hooked me. Pulled the rug right from under me. Very smooth orchestration of the back storytelling. As well how they so smoothly interlaced from the backstory to the current happenings... excellent.
Just can't gush enough about this series. Hopefully it stays at this level throughout the season. Alias and The Practise will be a great 1-2 punch in my books. I was going to try to take in Criminal Intent but it won't be happening now... plus ABC is in HD... NBC isn't... just makes it that much better.

Dave, thanks for the last 10 minutes synopsis.
I kept wondering how in the world she got on a flight back from Taiwan given that she stuck out like a sore red thumb!
I kept having flashbacks to "Le Femme Nikita" - the movie - while watching Alias.
I have to wonder what would have happened if Sidney went with that car that her dad told her to get into. Was the dad willing to let Sidney be killed off to protect his "cover"?

Great show......and that red hair was HOT!!!! I wish she would have kept it. Oh well. I hope we get to see more of the newspaper reporters sister. All in all a show that will last with me until January.............when Sex and the City comes back!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought that it was a very entertaining show and that the pacing and action were unbelievable for a TV series. My one annoyance was that the flashback/forward structure of the interrogation scenes seemed gratuitous. It didn't really add much to the story's development that benefited from the juxtaposition. There was a little bit of "Oh, we'll see that guy again" when you saw the torurer/interrogater's face and some pondering as to how, but it still seemed to be a device used to try to be cool rather than a device used for a more useful purpose. This is, however, a small complaint about a show that far exceeded my expectations.

Actually, it might have helped. There were several cuts that were clearly intended as commercial breaks, and were somewhat jarring. The "Alias" premiere could easily work in a 90-minute timeslot.

Could someone explain a few things to me. I missed a little bit of the show(interupted by a phone call, couldn't TIVO since I was watching in HD) after she got in the car with her father. What did he tell her? So she wasn't working for the CIA to begin with? What's SG-6 and how come they are considered 'the enemy'?
Marc.

He told her something like
Spoiler:Remember hearing about a group of spies from[list of countries] that splintered off and formed their own association [or some other word that began with "A"]? Well, I'm one of them, and you've been working for them all along. None of the lower-level operatives know. You ever wonder why you've never been to Langley?
And it's SD-6

DannyR:
Spoiler:I don't think you can just liquidate an asset with Sydney's obvious abilities. Agents like her don't just grow on trees, and if she's salvagable, you have to take that chance. You can always eliminate her later, if it doesn't work out.

I enjoyed it a lot as well. Definitely reminded me of "La Femme Nikita" (the film).
And I got a kick out of the dental torture scene -- an homage to "Marathon Man" when he holds the dental tool in one hand, the medication in the other, and gives her the choice, exactly as Laurence Olivier did.

Yeah, SG-6 was the team killed by the aliens found in the Stargate episode "Foothold", who then returned to earth impersonating them.
Guess it proves you can't trust any Sx-6 team.
