Presumably this box-set will have the same appalling transfers of Marnie and The Man Who Knew Too Much as the previous box-set?

Yeah, I'm wondering what that's about. At $100, I could be suckered into rebuying the set if they included all of the Hitch directed episodes. Unfortunately, since one disc is The Best Of AHP and the other is The Best Of AH Hour, I doubt that's what they're doing.

Yeah well good luck finding good elements for The Man Who Knew Too Much in this day and age.

I am sure this is just a re release at a cheaper list price. As the UK region free release without North By Northwest has been as cheap as $20 to $25 there is nothing I need here. Glad to see Hitchcock still sells enough to warrant promoting a new release. This no doubt will be at Costco this fall as part of their diminished holiday offerings.

I'm wondering if those extra discs are DVDs, Blu-rays with the TV episodes in HD, or Blu-rays with a ton of episodes in SD? In any case most of us would probably want to buy the shows in complete seasons instead of just "best of" collections.

90% chance it will be a few episodes on a Bluray.

I thought a bunch of SD episodes on a BD wasn't allowed for US BDs. I know there are some Germans sets that do so, but I was under the impression that was highly discouraged by the official specs.

Let me just say that since I just this minute finished watching all three seasons of the Hitchcock Hour on a region two DVD set - this Blu-ray will obviously contain The Jar and An Unlocked Window, the two finest Hitchcock Hours and two of the greatest hour shows in the history of television. They alone would make this worth buying again IF they are indeed taken from the negatives, and I cannot imagine Universal would have the chutzpah to do anything else. I don't know how many episodes they'd squeeze on one BD 50 but four or five would be no problem at all since they really only run forty-six minutes and change. It would be nice to also have the Hitch directed I Saw the Whole Thing. It will be interesting to see what's included on the half-hour Blu - I don't need all the Hitch directed episodes, as they're not all classics - but Lamb to the Slaughter, Revenge, Breakdown - those are must-haves - and I would hope for Specialty of the House, Man from the South, and a few others that are brilliant.

How is the quality of the region two set? Amazon UK has it priced at £64.99 (about $84), but inexplicably if you buy them in three single series sets you can get them for £13.99 apiece, which works out to about $54.

Universal continues to regurgitate the hit-and-miss Hitchcock Blu-ray set, yet they can't be bothered to release the ONE remaining season of Alfred Hitchcock Presents on DVD (region 1, that is). Effers.
