This is listed as "Limited Edition," so I am uncertain if anything new is being offered in this collection over the previous.

If not, I'll remove this announcement.

Darrell, perhaps nothing.

This just appeared on Amazon. Either it is a re-release at a lower price point, or, a Limited version with new extras.

You guys tell me.

Thanks, Mr. Epstein. I got the British version for about 50 bucks and love it. It didn't have NORTH BY NORTHWEST, but I already had that. The transfers were outstanding -- I even loved THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH.

Same here...already had the great digibook of NBNW too so the UK set was a no-brainer. Got it 2 years ago for considerably less than the US version.

It could be something like they had in Britain when the set was first released where they released a limited edition set. Is the new limited is missing North by Northwest since it was not included in the details of the set?

Perhaps Universal's agreement with Warner Bros. has expired

There was also a limited edition where the films were housed in film cans instead of a book. This one included North By Northwest apparently.

Announcement:

"If you bought the limited edition version of last year’s The Masterpiece Collection then you have permission to feel aggrieved, since this new Alfred Hitchcock ‘Ultimate Filmmaker Collection’ has similarities in terms of presentation and includes Vertigo, which was missing from the 2012 set.

On the other hand, if you don’t own any Hitchcock on blu-ray and are tempted to splash out, this is the one to go for. Smartly packaged in individual film cans, this collection of Alfred Hitchcock movies on Blu-ray includes 16 classics such as Psycho, The Birds and the Man That Knew Too Much, showcasing more than 34 years of filmmaking from the king of suspense.

Fans not only get the films digitally restored in high definition, but this set also comes with a host of extras.

Included in the collection is a 16-page companion booklet, movie poster art cards, new original letters, a storyboard and much more. "

I think the promo copy above is in error. It was North By Northwest that was missing, not Vertigo.

I have the British set and am also very happy with it.

I would have got the UK set too because it was cheaper when I got the US one, BUT it didn't have the original audio for Vertigo. It included only the new remix with newly recorded effects and I usually want to watch my movies with the original audio, especially when there are altered/new effects in the remixes.

I just don't get it. Unless Universal has (appropriately) gone back to remaster FAMILY PLOT, MARNIE, and THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH, their lavishing so much time, effort and expense on a re-issue of the same 15 movies with (apparently) the same features but with different packaging, rather than allocating at least some of that time, effort and expense on new-to-U.S.Blu-ray releases (COLOSSUS: THE FORBIN PROJECT, THIS ISLAND EARTH, The Hammer titles, etc. etc.) kind of infuriates me.

I ended up buying the UK set and the single of Vertigo to get the mono track, and it still cost considerably less than it would have to buy the US set.

I did the same thing, because I hate double-dipping on titles.

I'm a little confused about this release. Is there a cover picture for this one.The only Masterpiece Collection I'm seeing out there is the previous release. The others with that title are listed as unavailable, the ones from 2013.

Stan,

Just went to the Universal press site and there is still no photo depicting the new packaging.

The more I think about it, the more I am convinced this is just a reissue with a lower price (or suspecting a lower price)
