Great news! With the long gap between seasons 4 & 5, I figured I'd have to buy the Madman sets to finish the run. Now, it looks like the Madman releases are stalled out with season 6, and maybe Universal will finish the half hour shows after all.

Madman is an Australian DVD company that has been releasing season sets of Alfred Hitchcock Presents many months ahead of the North American releases. Madman has released the first 6 seasons on DVD.

If I remember correctly, Season 6 was released on DVD in Australia approximately 12 months ago.

I expected/hope that it will be released in January since that's when S5 came out this year.

I am glad to hear that Universal is continuing with the Alfred Hitchcock Presents releases. I hope we eventually get the entire run.

A whole year goes by and Universal decides to finally do this as MOD. If Universal is now going to start doing MOD for these kinds of releases, then maybe its time they should also reclaim titles of theirs stalled by other companies (Ironside, Marcus Welby) for similar treatment.

I'm glad it's finally coming but this is one title that I would have expected would keep being made available as a retail. It will now have taken close to nine years to get six of them out.

Very happy they are finally putting it out, even as MOD. I am also choosing to be cautiously optimistic that it may signal a new commitment to continuing old stalled Universal titles along the lines Jack is suggesting.

I'm disappointed this didn't get shuffled to Shout first instead of MoD.

I have a couple burned MoD sets, two seasons of Night Court before the Archives went to pressed discs, and S3 of the Cleveland Show, and they were all completely fine... but I'm still leery of the life of these discs.

But, I might just be overthinking it, and this could indeed be a new life for stalled series.

I wish it wasn't MOD but at this point, I'm happy to get it at all.

I was late to collecting the Alfred Hitchcock Presents season sets (largely due to the glitches with the Season One sets and the long delays between releases). When tvshowsondvd.com announced word several months back that a Season Six release was in the works, I started buying the sets. I currently have Seasons One and Two. While I'm thankful they are apparently continuing the releases, I am disappointed that they are going the DVD-R route rather than pressed discs. If "stores have resisted stocking it on their shelves" as the recent update from tvshowsondvd.com notes, why not sell the title as pressed discs solely through online retailers, rather than sell it as a DVD-R release through Amazon's CreateSpace?

Meanwhile, I just saw previous seasons at Target. But I'll get this and all I care about is they maintain the same PQ. It's just a consistently good show with good stories.

Maybe this MOD release gives a sliver of hope for other classic Universal shows...maybe not, but fingers crossed anyway. Would be their wisest decision in years, if so. This is an important TV title after all and it goes MOD, so what would stop the smaller stuff. Perhaps it's viewed differently in America with every product at the ready, but around the world Universal series especially were always far greater export titles than any other studio's output. With cautious optimism, I hope it's a turning point.

Warner Archives has released pressed discs rather than DVD-Rs for its more popular titles such as Shazam!, so I hope Universal reconsiders and releases Season Six (and Seven) as pressed discs. I wonder how this recent news bodes for any possible releases of the three seasons of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour.

Very disappointing that this is going MOD. That means DVD-R, no English subtitles, etc. Perhaps this show was never destined to succeed on home video. The double sided discs that were so problematic, the long gaps between seasons, and now MOD. I had hopes that Uni would eventually do a "complete series" release like Columbo and the upcoming Murder She Wrote that would present these shows with the respect they deserve, but it doesn't look like this is going to happen here.

I am profoundly disappointed with this DVD-R release. First Universal Studios Home Entertainment releases the previous five seasons on pressed discs, with long delays between releases and plenty of glitches in the first season double-sided discs, and now they insult fans of the show who have patiently waited for the series to be completed with this pricey MOD release. Studios have the audacity to claim that the MOD route is cheaper and yet that is clearly not reflected in the price. How can Universal Studios Home Entertainment release all seven seasons of Alfred Hitchcock Presents and all three seasons of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour on pressed discs via Madman Entertainment in Australia (Region 4), but fans in Region 1 are denied that type of treatment of their favorite show? Why not license the remaining seasons to an outfit that will release them on pressed discs? This is truly shameful! Please call or email Universal Studios Home Entertainment and let them know your opinion on this.

What is the website for Madman. Are the Hitchcock disks PAL (and region 4)? I have gotten disks from Ausstralia and they are reg 1-6.

I always thought the choice to go MOD was more about being less risky then price. I actually think it cost them more on a per disk basis to go MOD. That is why I believe CBS now does a first run on pressed disk (safe, conservative number, cheaper than MOD) then goes MOD thereafter since it gives them the best of both options. Just my opinion.
