This is weird because I was just reading an article about him in Sound and Vision, talking about how immersive Rush wanted the "Rush in Rio" live DVD to be for the viewer/listener. He also noted that their previous albums probably would not be remixed for 5.1, but didn't rule out future projects with 5.1 in mind (though he isn't all that keen on putting instruments in the rear channels).

Yeah, I don't know why I assumed it was Alex's wife who was 30. (Though he apparently was very young--17--when he became a father to Justin).

Those are some attractive photos, eh?

Not quite up there with Nick Nolte or Michael Jackson's mug shots, but not likely to end up in the family album anytime soon.

Unfortunate deal, to be sure, but on balance, I would prefer to have the guitar player in one of my all time favorite bands accused of being an unruley drunk than a child molester, thats for sure.

Makes my continuing support of the band a lot easier on the conscience.

Roger that!

There was a piece in last weeks paper where Pete seemed to again be trying to explain what he did. First order of business when you are in a hole: STOP DIGGING.

The whole thing is absurd and very disturbing, IMHO. If you want to research child abuse, I would expect that there are legit academic sites where you could go that don't ask for your f*ckin' credit card number.

Of course, two weeks ago, I bought the SACD of Tommy. And now, every time I cue it up, I think to myself, Am I supporting a pedophile?

Swell.

Does anyone else find it strange that they printed Alex's exact address and apt number?

Sheesh. Casino comes to mind: Deniro's Ace telling casino security to "exit [the "shit-kickin', stinky, horse manure-smellin' motherfu*ker"] off the premises . . . exit him off his feet and use his head to open the fu*kin' door" since he wouldn't take his feet off the table . . .

I don't doubt that there was overreaction on the part of all involved. Ritz-Carltons are snooty. And most Rush fans know that Alex likes to get his drink on.

I just wish Alex, Justin and Michelle had pulled a "Whitney Houston": leave the scene of the purported offense before authorities had a chance to even arrive. Apparently, they lingered in the band performance area long enough for Collier County sheriffs to arrive after being called by the probably rent-a-cop hotel security.

Yeah, ScottH: Trippy that the Naples Daily News published what is I guess either the address of an apartment that Alex keeps for whatever reason or Justin & Michelle's address. Any Rush fan HTFers in Naples starting candlelight vigils at the location? :)

And as usual, I take issue with the way lazy writers attempt to summarize Rush's discography by just mentioning early 80s output, despite the band's 30 years of fairly consistent recording and touring.

Yeah, with that, and the printing of the address, I got the feeling that the journalist had no idea of Alex's celebrity status. I'm sure he had never heard of him until the incident.

It is unfortunate, but Rush did not really have many "Hits" before the 80s. Most people are likely not aware of their pre 80s output.

Of course, I am surprised that the incident has been so newsworthy in the first place.

This is what happens when you give Canadians guitars... ;)

For the record, viewing child pornography for the sake of research does NOT qualify the viewer as a "child molester" in any way, shape, or form. That's like saying that my reading the Wall Street Journal makes me a business tycoon.

Just to clarify, my initial comment about "child molesters" was inspired by M.Jackson's recent and past legal issues.

Once P.Townsend was brought into the conversation, I switched to the term "pedophile".

Horses for courses, right?
