SHOOT THE MOON. This one's in your court, Warner Bros. Archives. One of the late actor's best performances.

Didn't I read somewhere that Gumshoe has come out on Blu-ray? I've never seen it, but reading descriptions of it makes it sound right up my alley.

Three of his five Oscar-nominated performances, in Murder on the Orient Express, The Dresser, and Under the Volcano, aren’t available on domestic Blu-Ray.

His role as a Russian soldier is little more than a cameo, but THE VICTORS is a great film ripe for rediscovery.

It is indeed. All there is of it is a PAL DVD.

One of my favorite Finney performances is in A MAN OF NO IMPORTANCE, which can at least be streamed on Amazon Prime.

I don't think The Dresser is available anywhere on Blu-ray. I think it's a Sony title, I sure would love to have it in HD.

It is streaming, but, that's streaming. The 2016 remake, with Anthony Hopkins and Ian McKellen, is on Blu-ray.

The Browning Version, from 1994. Great performance by Finney, very powerful.

Thank you so much for this information! I have added it to my Watchlist. I know what I'll be viewing tomorrow instead of Noir Alley!

Big Fish isn't missing on Blu-ray, but needs to be redone because the DVD version contains extras that should have been ported over to the Blu-ray but weren't. So there really should be a HD version with all the extras so you don't have to hang onto the DVD for completion after buying it.

That should have been a candidate for Twilight Time awhile ago.

I watched Gumshoe today at lunch (streamed from Prime), and it was as delightfully quirky and fun as I had always been led to believe it was. And it so cunningly evolved from oddball comic riff to a deadly serious murder mystery that it kind of stands apart from most movies of the era. It was Stephen Frears first time behind the camera, so the picture has a peculiar pace to it that also defies categorization. And Finney is just brilliant in it.
