I'm sadly one of the few people that hasn't had the chance to see a Kurosawa film, but I was annoyed by the crack about "Egotism or genius?"

Some directors aim to make art on a reel of celluloid. Some directors aim to make as much money as they can by not being artists. And there are those that do a great blend of the both (later Hitchcock, for example)

Besides, Kurosawa literally had to direct "Yume" blind. His assistants used his painted storyboards as the guide for the shots.

sigh, I didn't bother reading the review cause dvdfile never posts real screencaps, I like to see what the dvd looks like, they're still the best source for news, and the occasional review, but really their reviews are never up to the regular standard of Ron or IGN in my opinion. This is a film I'm very interested in seeing though, it'd be nice if Ron reviewed it. [IMG]

Tony, the only one is the Japanese disc, that comes in a beautiful slip and keepcase, but is the EXACT SAME DISC as is in Warner's snapper. It runs about $20 more after shipping

Excellent! My favorite "showoff" Laserdisc now has an anamorphic DVD version! I had practically worn the LD out. This title snuck up on me as, apparently, it did for some others.

    hmmm,

picked this up on the hype.Pic quality ranges across the different episodes/dreams; the one I will comment on is the Orchard:

    1. Pic looks blurry.
    2. Colour looks strange (as if converted from PAL or something).
    3. Picture SHAKES during the long shots on mountainside of ghosts/spirits, as if handheld BADLY.
    4. Severe compression during long shots, losing a lot of detail. Very sad.

The other dreams were a DRAG to watch.
