Air Travel w/ camcorder. (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

I just got a new Digital camcorder last week, and this week, I'll be flying across the country to San Diego for my sister's wedding. I'm concerned about my camcorder. I'd like to pack it in my carry-on luggage. Is there any problems with it and the tapes going through the xray machine? I know your not supposed to put film through, since it can expose the film?, but these are just digital tapes, so I should be fine, right?

I've never had any problems with magnetic tape or disks of any kind in Airport X rays. Video tapes, audio cassettes, floppy disks, even laptop computers, never a glitch. I wouldn't sweat it. There are magnetic fields in there but they aren't strong enough to erase anything AFAIK.

I'd make sure the camcorder's battery is charged though in case the security folks make you demonstrate to them that it really is a camcorder and not an explosive device! :E

I'll second what Kevin P stated about the good batteries. I have had to prove my pager, cell phone, calculator, and camcorder all worked before getting through security.

You'll be fine. I've taken my digital camcorder with me on many vacations, going through the x-ray machine each time without problems. I just got back from Mexico and wasn't asked to demonstrate any of my electronic devices. Guess the security people weren't electronics buffs!

Your camera will be fine.

I brought my 8mm camcorder with me to Ohio via air and the tapes were just fine when I brought them back.

The digital tapes should be just as ok.
