I have done full recoveries from Time Machine. Worked fine. The important thing is that once the drive is plugged in and setup, it happens continuously and automatically. Processor resources should be minimal. And sure USB is slow; use FireWire or Thunderbolt (or USB 3).

Time!achine backups to USB drives are notorious for bogging down a machine. I've noticed it for years. Maybe on current systems its now imperceptible, but on Core2 Duo machines everything's slower when Time Machine is running.

Yes, USB requires more CPU attention. As I said, use a real external device interface. Apple builds them in for a reason.

I also dont know how long it takes apple to send me the new os. whats it called this time, mountain lion?
the Air did not have it installed but they gave us a website to get a code or somthing for a free upgrade.
we had to send in a copy of the reciept and wait to get verified, still waiting.

You will receive a redemption code to download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Note that the only way to get the OS currently is via download from the App Store. (It's the blue circled A on the left of the dock.)

Yes I was right at the store buying it while you and I where trying to get me a cover for it.
It's working very well so far.
Still need to pick up a DVD/blu drive.
I'm glad someone mentioned migration assistant. I had no idea there was such a think.
I'm transferring about 9gbs from the old one to the Air now. Will take nearly three hours tho'.

Make sure Migration Assistant transfers your bookmarks...it did not the first time I ran it on my father's new Mac mini.
Here's the blu-ray/DVD burner I got for my MBA: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-SE-506AB-TSBD-External-Blu-ray/dp/B006B7R9QE . It comes with 2 USB plugs (and needs an extension cable if you use the second one) but so far, I have only needed one cable for it to work.

Steve,

My co-worker just got the same burner from Amazon.

He loves it. He says it works great.

I went with the more expensive Digistor, but that was
just a preference issue.

Yep, Steve I have that in my saved cart from when you posted that last week.
Probably pick it up next week.
I don't need to worry about bookmarks. They are always Internet saved. I use the Rockmelt browser and it keeps everything i need saved there.
Probably like google chrome I think does the same thing,

And Mac Blu-ray Player, which you pointed me towards, Ron, just had an update that fixed a playback problem with a recent disc, Peter Gabriel's Secret World Live.
The Samsung recorder price tends to fluctuate. I got it at $85. It went to $100 a day later. Now it is $90.
I have not burnt anything yet, but bought the Verbatim BD-R media. I'll have to try burning a DVD, since that media is cheaper.

Tony,

Curious. Downloading that Rockmelt browser now.

Steve,

Verbatim BD discs got a bad rap on Amazon. I went
and bought Digistor's own brand from Amazon, which was
well rated, and cheaper. They work great.

Let me know how the Verbatim brand works for you.

Ron thAt Rockmelt browser works very well for me.
It is intended more for people who use twitter and FB as it fully integrates those and maybe some other social medias directlyinto o the interface of the browser.

Tony,

It looks interesting, but I am rather bothered by the advertising banner
across the top and don't know how to get rid of it.

Thanks for the warning, Ron. The box is unopened, and I am going to return it. I should have read the reviews first...but I went by the name, which used to be good for media.

Steve,

Oooh. Didn't mean to alarm you.

Maybe they will be fine.

I only remember when I researched different brands
a few weeks back, the Verbatim discs didn't rate well
on Amazon.

Go look for yourself before deciding to return.

...and check out the Digistor disc reviews.
