Larry, if you are a fan...pick it up! (read that other thread if you need justification).

And having heard the new album in its entirety live, I can say that it will be a great addition to her collection. Can't wait for May 3!

Just placed my order for the CD and book. Kudos to Mann for (once again) embracing the album concept.

I pre-ordered as well. I like the sound of that limited edition 32-page book. [IMG]

I'll order online too for the booklet.

Of course, just having purchased MoFi's SACD of Bachelor #2 (and with Lost in Space on order) I will also have to double dip for the hirez version.

I'll try to post my review of Bachelor #2 SACD soon, but suffice it to say, if you even have a mid-fi or better SACD capable system, and are a huge Aimee Mann fan, run, don't walk, and buy that SACD. It's a marvelous sounding disc. Made me wonder what goes wrong when CDs are mastered, because MoFi doesn't claim to do any remixing, just extracting the most accurate sound from the master tape. Well there is more than a "small, golden-ear-audible-only" difference between the SACD and CD, and my system is nowhere near high end!

Really? I always thought that the CD of Bachelor #2 sounded great. But I'm a big MoFi fan, too (and I think their old Ultradisc II of The Who's Tommy run rings around any previous or subsequent release).

I lent my copy of Bachelor #2 to my brother and he lost it, so I guess that's a good justification for double-dipping.

How's Lost In Space? Another album I never got around to buying.

Both the Mofi Mann SACDs are fantastic, a couple of my absolute favorites. And this may be heresy, but over the last year I find that I prefer "Lost in Space".

Aaron, I'll try to write a comprehensive review in a few days when i've had time to A/B. The original CD is indeed good, but the SACD is phenomenal. I could go on and on about what I heard, but the most telling thing was when my girlfriend came home, she didn't know I had bought the SACD. She walks in, starts listening, and says "wait, this sounds different..." (and she and I have listened to the album hundreds of times and seen Aimee live in a very small venue and got to talk to her).

I asked her what she thought sounded different, she said "it sounds like she's right here, it sounds more like her", she also noted that the bass was lower. My bedroom system doesn't have a sub (Sony SACD changer to Sony STR-DA555ES to Energy C6 mains), but the bass guitar had that sort of fullness that would make you think I did have one. Not overpowering bass, no, it just reached lower than the CD version. And the backing vocals seemed more distinct to me. But definitely Aimee's vocals and the bass extension were the most prominent differences.

Lost in Space is very good (though I think I like Bachelor a little bit better).

Of the two I like LiS better. The song cycle makes it really cohesive as an album and her upcoming "concept" release is a natural progression from what she did with it. I love all the songs on Bachelor, but it doesn't say "complete work of art" lie LiS.

Then I'll be a heretic right along with you. Lost in Space is my personal favorite. Can't wait for the new CD though.
