Saw Herzog's masterpiece A: TWOG on this individually-released Blu a while back; seeing this on high-def was sublime - truly amazing print, and obviously far superior to the previous P.O.S DVD prints of the film.

Incredible acting on everyone's part, notably K. Kinski as Aguirre. He didn't just portray this character, he WAS this character.

Incredible story & visuals; the jungle the Conquistadors were trudging through may as well have been another character in the film - lush/stunning, and also extremely dangerous. The difficulty the group had in navigating the steep cliffs & river (with primitive equipment) was very pronounced.

    Aguirre's descent into insanity -
especially in those final scenes on the raft - were brilliantly portrayed. The final far shot of the raft moving around was very disorienting, and was a good analogy re: Aguirre's disturbed state of mind.

I definitely feel this is Herzog's best non-documentary film - and I've seen most of his other movies.

And perhaps Herzog's as well. Kinski wanted to kill him at some point, either during this shoot or that of FITZCARRALO.
