I don’t believe for a second that Clark Gregg won’t be involved. Not only has he been the show’s star for 5 years, he is also it’s biggest champion. They’re maintaining the illusion that his character was dying at the end of season 5. I’ll be very disappointed if it’s anything more than that.

Agreed. I can't see any scenario in which the show would get rid of its biggest star. I do look forward to seeing what happens this summer though. Maybe Captain Marvel and the rest of the Avengers do something to save Coulson's life?

That would be a surprising level of attention to detail, since the film side of Marvel (which admittedly is run by different people and is probably subject to more widespread public scrutiny) hasn't really kept a good lid on plans involving characters that are "dead."
