Aesthetic question about a scene in VERTIGO (1 Viewer)

When Scottie finally transforms Judy into Madeline by making her pin her hair back in the correct fashion, she walks out and they kiss.

The camera spins around them and the scene changes from the apartment, to the stable where he spent time with Madeline, and then back to the apartment again.

How was this scene produced? Was it made using rear-projection on one half of the set?

The documentary on the dvd (and VHS widescreen version) answers this question, but if I remember correctly they built a set that way (half apartment, half stables), no tricks used.
