So we are finishing our basement and i want a decent HT setup. We do entertain a lot so wife wants a club like setup (dance party with around 30 guests who like loud music). Our basement is open and we want it to stay open as much as possible so want to avoid speakers on the floor and out budget for everything including screen, speakers, amp, sub is max 8K CAD (maybe a bit more). I can run power/speaker wires myself. Can you guys make recommendations on
1) Speakers/sub with high enough SPL to produce club like sound as well as good HT sound.
2) Speaker placement in the complicated open basement
3) Cost around 8K CAD
4) Screen and AMP recommendations
5) Anything else i should think of

Probably not recommendable to do both dance party club-like setup and reasonably good HT sound w/ one combined system in that space.

Should probably go w/ 2 (largely) separate systems.

How often do you really intend to run these dance parties anyway??? If not that often, maybe you should just rent some PA gear for such (and only buy for the HT itself)...

Probably 60-70% of time for dance parties

How often is that??? 60-70% of 365 days/year is 219-256 days/year! I'll assume you're not actually doing 24-hour parties...

IF really that often, I hope you're getting paid well to run them...

If you want to do both in one system, stay far away from what you were quoted. It's a truly abysmal solution.

Go get some speakers meant to play loud. I would suggest these:

You'll also need at least 2 subs to get club levels of bass. I would recommend going with SVS, PowerSoundAudio, Rythmik or JTR there too.

What is your budget?

Dave's right that you need much more substantial speakers than were recommended. You won't accomplish your goals with in-wall/ceiling speakers. You'll also need more power than a receiver will provide, though you can use that Denon as a head unit with external amps.

I have to question if a projection system is really ideal for a multi-use room, rather than an LED based TV.
