Ok So i discovered last night that one of my PSB Alpha LR's is blown.

So now i have 3 options

    1) live with only 4 speakers (yeah right)

    2) buy 2 new Alpha LR's and pop the extra one into my rear center spot (reciever can take it but till now ive never had room for it)

3a) Upgrade my front speakers to some nice towers (im thinking Paradigm or B&W so adive on what models would be appreciated, however budget is a bit stretched atm so yeah gotta be careful here)

3b) Upgrade my mains to some nicer speakers that can later be used as my rears when i get my nice full towers for the fronts. (again thinking Partadigm or B&W cause ir eally like the sound of both)

2 new Alpha LR's and go to 6.1!!!!

I like all speakers to be the same, and the performance -vs- cost factor on PSB Alpha's are real good in my opinion.

That would be a real strong 6.1 that I could endorse for sure.

Paradigm are great speakers... You really should save until you can do all speakers the same genre. you will be much happier in the long run. Or buy today what you know you will be able to match say a year or two from now.

Don't forget the good online speaker companies as well, some say they rivel the Paradigms for a lot less money and many companies are having year end sales.

    Good Luck
    Mike

John: 10-15% off retail would be a 'good' price for the 60s....I don't know what the current version retails for, but you should be able to get a little bit of a discount.

I agree with Mike about the speakers matching, too....particularly with the front stage - L,C,R. Surrounds are less crucial, but I typically prefer to have them match if possible.

    Nice [IMG]

If possible, get them some nice clean current.....if your receiver has pre-outs, maybe think about finding them a nice outboard amp off of audiogon or something. Or better yet, hit some separates. Those speakers DO respond to better quality gear.

Plus, taken into account where Paradigm speakers cost less in Canada to begin with, I'd say you got a sweet deal.

    Enjoy. [IMG]
