I would like some advice or comments on my mutual fund investing from those that keep up with this sort of thing or anybody with an opinion.

In addition to my retirment and benefit plan, my employer offers a 457 deferred compensation plan. I've been contributing since the day I was hired. I never really paid much attention to it until the last year or so.
I've been in the same funds since I signed up and I haven't done to bad I guess for some one who doesn't have a clue, but I wonder if I couldn't be doing better. Below is a list of my current funds I'm in and below that are the funds available to me. I hope its readable. Just looking for some comments or advice

Thanks
Greg

I have the American Century funds you speak of. In addition to the Ultra, I also have the Select and the Vista. I am only 23, and I have been putting in $20/month into each one. I believe they are a combination of aggressive and non-aggressive and I have had ~15-20% returns for the past five years. I am pleased. I contemplated pulling them about six months ago, but resist the urge. I used to watch it weekly and drove myself nuts with all the ups and downs.

If you're young, then you should put your money in high risk funds and forget about it. Look for the Morningstar ratings to see which funds are better than others.

You're getting 15-20% over the past five years, in those American Century Funds, which included the worst downturn in the Nasdaq ever? You'd better check your math.;)

I tend toward index funds mostly, these days. I hold a lot of SPY (S&P500 Depository Receipts), QQQ (Nasdaq 100), and IJR (Small Cap 600 Index). The management fees are typically way low on these, as compared to actively managed funds. Many of those funds use some wacko method of calculating return, such that actual return is much lower than the stated numbers above. I can tell you for a FACT that that is true for Fidelity Contrafund, Magellan, and Growth&Income fund. Go ahead, ask me how I know.;)

I run a mix of probably 70% stocks, 20% investment grade bond funds, and 10% cash/money market for my total portfolio. I got hit particularly hard during the downturn, as my stocks holdings were heavy in tech (I had more individual stocks back then). I clawed much of that loss back with some not-necessarily-recommended short-term trading (not day-trading, more like month-trading). I'm going more for the tortoise than hare approach these days, though.

My math is accurate the first three years my returns were in the high 30% range. With all the recent downturns it has lowered to around 15-20% of my total investment
