The vast amounts of money flowing through the economy in 1929 are present in these advertisements. Viking, by the way, was a GM brand that was paired with Oldsmobile. Oldsmobile was already a very good car for the era, but a Viking was like the "Cadillac" of Oldsmobiles—but for a lot less than a Cadillac. Cadillac also had LaSalle, a beautiful car designed by Harley Earl that was less than the price of a Cadillac, and which was a very hot selling car in the late 1920s. Viking died in the first few years of the Great Depression, but LaSalle lasted until c.1940.
Since many of us aren't supposed to leave the house unless necessary, even working from home we might have some extra time on our hands. Anyway, I might revive this thread if there's interest in seeing some lovely old ads from c. 80-90 years ago.....
