ADV has had problems with these shows since they were released. Always going out of print shortly after they hit store shelves, and bringing completely stupid prices on E-Bay. I watched as some poor soul won a Beastmaster season 3 set for $240. Sad.

ADV = Sketchy. Always have been.

ADV has never had any problems with these shows. Farscape has always remained in print.

The first release were on the market for years before ADV decided to bring out the series in its Starburst format. Then, the series remained on the market foir years before losing the rights to the first season.

Sony has even stated that they have no desire to release the series to DVD.

Your Wrong!
Always remained in print? Pretty funny, considering Beastmaster, EFC, and Mutant X have all had at least 1, or 2 seasons that went out of print shortly after their release. they were impossible to get except through E-Bay. No online retailer, or store carried them. I'd call that a pretty big problem.

Farscape, and Andromeda were exceptions to ADV's horrible distribution.

I also saw David Lambert's article and had to run out and find one. I recall about 2 weeks ago it was on sale at Best Buy for $29.95...and I left it, because I had too much else stuff to buy that day. Suddenly, it's OOP. Today, I went to THREE different Best Buys...found one lone copy at the last store (it's kinda got a big dent at top of package.) Asked the clerk if I could open it to see if the discs were okay; he said yes. The discs were okay. I bought it--it was back up to $37.99. Still--pretty good price for 66 episodes, yes?

And yeah--it's on ebay right now; ya know, some guy's actually asking $275 for JUST season three; what a gyp! Does that mean he'd charge about $900 for the whole series?

This upset me as well... I had pre-ordered Mutant X: The Complete Series... thinking I would finally get to see all the episodes of this series. But I guess it wasn't meant to be.

Sorry, but ADV are notorious for their release policies.

Release a series in either single disc format (as with many anime titles) or single season format (less often, but sometimes, usually if there is more than one season). Sometimes they will do a "premium" first disc that comes with a "collectors box" (ie, to put the following single releases in). These releases are usually quite costly compared to many studios and similar titles and very often feature limited print runs - ADV rarely do a second pressing; once they're gone, they're gone.

Then sometimes, but not always, do a complete release set at a much lower price.

The sometimes is important - because it;s not guaranteed, you never know whether ADV will do this or not.

This, combined with the limited initial print runs, is a powerful "hook" - as you don't know whether there will be a new complete release or not plus you do know the initial run is limited - these all lead collectors to buy the initial release because they know by the time you hear there won't be a budget full release, it's too late, and you will end up with either a collection with gaps or nothing.

Again, you're wrong, Nebiroth. ADV Films only does collector Box editions with their anime releases. They do not, nor have they ever, did first volume releases with an artbox to hold the entire series.

The only releases to enjoy this treatment are, and have always been, their anime DVD releases. ADV ir primarily an anime distribution company and tyhey will always remain so.

I agree with you. In fact, I turned over the boxed set and it said it stars MARK Goddard. MARK Goddard was the star of "Lost in Space." DANIEL Goddard was the star of "Beastmaster," for heaven's sake!!
