Back in my bachelor days, I was quite the connoisseur of porn. I remember ordering from at least 3 different places online and having it shipped straight to my door no more than 5 years ago.

Before I got married I decided to give my porn collection away to one of my buddies. I figured my SO wouldn't be too appreciative having other women around the house.

A few nights ago, the wife and I were talking and she said she wished I still had my "old dirty movies". Turns out she liked them as much as me, she was just too embarrassed to say anything right after we got married.

This morning I decided to check out some new offerings online and found a title I used to have and wanted to get again. After going through all the ritual billing info, I was informed it is now illegal to ship adult material to Arkansas. WTF!?!?!?! When did this happen? I thought this was maybe an error on the website's part (DVD Empire), but another site (DVD Planet) confirmed it. I don't remember this being on any ballot I've voted on. Can someone enlighten me as to when this underhanded governmental atrocity took place?

Yeah, haven't you seen any hillbilly horror films? They ALL come from Arkansas!;)

Just kidding. I'm north of the border, so it should come as no surprise that I have no idea how this happened in your community. I am surprised that it happened though. With the internet, it is pretty easy to find pretty much any porn you need. I don't know how stopping you from getting the physical product is going to "help" your community.

You should try to find the website for "The Free Speach coallition" that are a porno protest/lobby/educational group that fights what is happening in your neck of the woods. They can probably tell you how this came to be.

That would mean he's referring to Hilary and I just don't want to go there :)

At the risk of sounding like a complete pervert myself, I'll just say that we're run into the same problem here. Try www.dvdexotic.com for ordering, as they seem to have zero problem shipping anywhere...

That may not be the only thing related to sex that is illegal in AK. I wasn't aware of it at the time, but engaging in oral (and other forms of) sex was illegal back when I was visiting Arizona (probably still is). That would have been a hard one to explain to mom...

As Tim addressed, I find it hard to believe that NOBODY ships to AK. Try other places.

FYI, everyone:

People in certain locations of the U.S. cannot get what people can in other locations due to the 1973 Supreme Court ruling on "obscenity" and local, community guidelines.

All this had been pretty moot for the most part, through the 1980s and well into the Age of the Internet.

However, when the North Hollywood production house Extreme Associates, which produces pornography that is as edge-pushing as it is possible to get away with (as in showing violence committed against women with their own consent), had DVDs and tapes seized in Pennsylvania three years ago (and the Adult DVD Empire arm of DVD Empire was the vendor), it marked the first serious effort by the Justice Department (under the current administration) to bring a case to the forefront in more than a decade.

As a result, several online vendors of adult materials reassessed their business plans (especially Adult DVD Empire) and decided to prohibit distribution of their wares to certain states (of course, that would involve the South as well as parts of the Midwest). End of story.

Of course, the court involved in the Pennsylvania case eventually ruled in favor of Extreme Associates, based on the First Amendment. And the Justice Department lost, but vowed to try again.

Since that is the climate in which the U.S. finds itself now, online adult vendors are being much stricter about where they ship. Until this climate changes, expect this to remain the case.

As for our thread starter, I might advise going to a brick-and-mortar shop to find those cherished missing titles. (The case against Extreme Associates was based on the clauses regarding interstate commerce.)

It's fun being an editor at a newspaper!

Can you get alcohol shipped? Here in CT, it's a big fat NO!

Considering my town was once in the Guiness Book of Records for having the most places (to get alcohol) per sq. mile (or something crazy like that), I am enraged!

Well, it's not that I can't buy booze, it's that I can't get Ethel-M 'liquor' candies delivered here. I mean, it's freakin' candy and CT says "NO!" :frowning:

Why not give your buddy a call and see if he still has your stash of smut?
