Adobe to aquire Macromedia (1 Viewer)

I suppose this could go into computers, but it's really about the companies and their product futures more than PC's.

Frankly, this kind of bums me out. I really like both companies, and their software, but I think they work better as seperate companies.

Wonder what will happen to FreeHand? When Adobe bought Aldus it went to Macromedia. Maybe some other company will pick it up. Or maybe Adobe will just squash it this time.

Yes, it will be interesting to see what the fallout will be. Freehand's future is doubtful. Flash and Dreamweaver will survive, but Fireworks will probably have any features unique to it rolled into Photoshop.

I, for one, think this is a well deserved merger. Compatibility between apps has always been a HUGE issue with anyone in MultiMedia. Adobe does a SUPERB job (if not the best job) in this area. I can't tell you how many problems I've had with compatibility between Illustrator and Flash. Hopefully Adobe's acquisition of Macromedia will improve on this.
