    Hi everybody,

    does anybody have this configuration:

    Adire Shiva
    AVA250
    Qtc 0,6

What do you think of it? Will I get good results with music?

I just did a 54L sealed Shiva with a PE 250W (Q=.707) and it is awesome for both music and HT.

I could swear we just answered this question. It's like Deja Vu all over again [IMG]

    Q of .6 for music
    Q of .707 for combo HT/Music
    IMHO of course.

    Has anyone done a Shiva in a Q range between .6 and .707? Would a Q of .65-ish (about 70L sealed) be a slighty-better-for-music sub?

Technically yes, but would you be able to tell the difference?

I'd go up to .659 just to be safe.

Obviously, a large part of DIY is experimenting and the enjoyment of testing ideas and learning from the results. The other side is wanting to get good results without a lot of trial-and-error. I would tend to give the folks at Adire some credit for doing good testing and then offering their results to the DIY crowd. Those numbers from the 56 liter and 85 liter enclosures have been tested and offered to us as good solutions. However, if you're really curious about it the only way to know is to build it and listen for yourself.

I didn't mean to start a silly thread: I am a newbie and need advices.

    Why would you say that
    0.6 is more for music
    and
    0.707 combo HT/music?

I think he was asking why the sound produced from a .6 sounds better for music and sound from a .707 sounds better for HT.
    Forza!

Gianluca....Jack's correct ( imagine that?!) in asserting that the differences between a Q of .6 VS a Q of .7 is small and might just well be overshadowed by the effect of the room itself & the x-over.
Basically, the differences will be heard in the transient respsonse and where the Freg Respsonse curve will exhibit a bump, secondly in the roll off.
Not to confuse the issue further but I think where you'll hear and perhaps appreciate the differnces in Q values is when you compare apples to oranges, i.e., A sealed Q of .7 VS a Vented Q of .7. Or any other Combonation. My Vote will be for Sealed in a music system and a vented in a dual purpose set up. The Q is up to you. And most people over look the effects of Filter theory....both active/passive &
    acoustical/electrical.
Build the mid Q Adire alignment and opt for the better HS-200 amp. E-mail Adire and Ask.

CarlDais, why would you use a vented system for dual purpose? Where would the difference be? Frequency response?

I think he's suggesting building one sub for music and second one for movies. Sealed systems don't extend as low but offer flatter reponse. Vented systems tend to extend lower but may not be as flat.

I just tested the sealed SHIVA with a 0.6 Qtc on the .xls sheet I found on the www.diysubwoofers.org

    The results are pretty good!

The sheet tells me the frequency response and the supposed in-room response...

It looks very good, and as I am more interested in music than movies... I think I will go for the sealed one!
