hi,

it's been awhile since i've frequented the HTF, or posted.
i have a shiva that's been sitting in the closet for awhile not being used.
this driver dates back to about 2001/02. plan on putting it back to
work very soon. am looking to build a sub for my son and his girlfriend.
the room is not to large, and the sub will be mainly for music.
would like to build the 88.5 litre sealed design suggested by adire audio.
the question i have; is the 88.5 litres, the nominal volume without the
driver and amp; or is it the net/resultant volume taking into account the
volume of the driver and amp?
and, does someone know the volume that the shiva takes up in the box?
thanks in advance

The 88.5L is the net volume after subtracting the amp, driver and all braces. I'm not sure how much volume the driver takes up but if you increase the size of the enclosure about 10% it should work out just fine. Sealed enclosures don't have to be accurate to the 1/10L.

You can download the original Shiva application white papers from The Wayback Machine.

And I'm very familiar with the Shiva. I had a pair that are currently in a family member's car. I also have a Dayton DVC 12" which is Parts Express answer to the Shiva (also made by Eminence). Finally, I have a Vamp Audio VP-12. It's a dual 4 ohm version of the Shiva from Adire.

hi robert j,

thanks for the info regarding the shiva. was using it before in a smaller
sealed enclosure, and then went up to the tempest for a combination
of use for music and movies. the tempest is a ported 220 litre
adire design tuned at 17 hz. its a downfiring sonosub. i have'nt used it
in about 2 years. it has been sitting upstairs in our spare bedroom.
my wife said it had to go (WAF). it was in our living room, and she got less accepting of the looks. right now am using a 12" dayton rss315hf sealed.
works fine since we listen to more music now then movies.
will probably be looking at selling the tempest sonosub, or just the driver itself. the sonosub would have to be a local/pickup sale. if anyone here
is interested let me know, or i should post in the for sale.
thanks

Mentions of selling outside of the For Sale section are frowned upon. If you have a local sale, then either put your location in your profile or make sure that you include it in your For Sale post.

I'm in a similar situation where I need to unload some DIY finished subs ranging from SVS cylinder series clones to subs built with Stryke Audio AV12's. I have to feed my new obsession with 'evil black rifles'.
