Interested in the new Maggies (four MMG-W and MMG-C) and a powered sub. Understand Maggies are about 86% efficient with a 3-4 ohm rating. I also need new electronics. My home is pre-wired for stereo in four other rooms.

I'm interested in a 7.1 system (5.1 HT and a second zone useable for providing music in these four other rooms). Before hearing about these Maggies for my HT I was thinking 75-100 watts per channel (@8ohms) would meet my needs.

What receiver, amp/pre-amp or integrated amp is available for less than $1000 that you have or consider a good source for these Maggies?

    Richard,

They aren't 86% efficient. They have 86dB sensitivity. That means with 2 watts input they will output 86dB.

Speaker sensitivity is pretty abyssmal for the most part.

    Cheers,

Thanks John. Not thinking clearly, too early I guess.

Oops, I left off my key point -- whatever it is needs to be stable driving a 4-ohm load continuously.

One of the questions to ask, how loud do you like to listen, and from how far away?

That helps determine what output power you really need.

    Regards,
