I am adding an amp to my HK AVR300. I am guessing I need 5 coax cables to run from the rec. to the amp. Are these a special type of cable? Should I plug the amp into the switched plug on the rec.? I assume I will need to re-calibrate, is this correct? Any other helpful info is appreciated.

Thanks for the info. One more question; should the amp be plugged into my power strip/conditioner or right into the wall? Thanks again.

some people will say straight from the wall is the only way to do it. when i used an acurus a200x5, i connected it to a monster hts-2500 and then tried it straight from the wall for comparison and found no noticeable difference. i say go for the surge protector for the added safety unless you unplug after every time you turn your system off. of course, ymmv.

You do need to recalibrate because there's no guarantee the new power amplifier gain matches that of the internal amps.

I did need to re-calibrate after adding a 200x5 channel amp. I'm plugging my amp right into to outlet, but I do plan on getting a PS Audio Ultimate Outlet(20 amp version). Just to make sure I don't starve the amp of the power it needs.
