I am in the early design stages of my HT, and wanted to understand and make a decision on the front wall where the projection screen will be.

I have a really beautiful set of Acoustic Research AR1 mains, however for overall cosmetics of the room, I would like the projection screen to be about 2ft from the front wall, so that the front edge of the speakers is parallel with the screen.

I am considering framing in a faux wall in the front, and putting acoustically transparent fabric (to be located and acquired still) across the front, so the speakers are actually "in" the wall, with a means of opening the wall for access.

Is this a desireable setup or will it cause problems with the acoustics? The mains have a 15" side firing woofer on the outside (1 left, 1 right, respectively). Would it make sense to build any type of resonance area in the corners of the room or anything unique like that?

I await everyones opinions and would like to see some pictures if anyone has done something sort of like this..

I hate to send people to other forums but I have seen this many times at AVS Forum in the HT Design and Construction section.

From what I've read, nothing special is needed. The frame of the wall if built with 2x4's and everythign is painted black. Then panels covered in black speaker grill cloth are attached. It's just like having dozens of speaker grills covering an entire wall.

Also look for a build by a guy called MKTheater. He used an acoustically transparent screen as well. He lined up identical speakers for his front 3 and built 4 18" subs all behind the screen/wall.
