Thrilled about "Double Indemnity", one my all-time favorite movies. Let's hope they do a better job this time. I'll live with a good barebones release, but it really is a shame that Universal is behind this title. You just know that WB or Paramount would give it their all...
I'll pick up Double Indemnity only if there's an improvement.
Re: Halloween titles
I have to say if that's all we're getting this year then I'm pissed.
No Hammer titles? (Brides of Dracula, Curse of the Werewolf, Twins of Evil, The Gorgon)
No unreleased classics from the 30's? (Black Cat, Island of Lost Souls, etc.)
No 50's films? (Incredible Shrinking Man, Creature sequels)
What, don't they have a competent Marketing Dept at Universal? You'd think they'd have the sense to tie in a few of these with their Van Helsing media blitz.
I'm hoping that there's going to be another wave of Universal DVD horror in October, since Van Helsing will be released on DVD in that time-frame (to capitalize on Halloween, etc.). So keep your fingers crossed.
That The Funhouse DVD had damn well better be a SE. I already have the Goodtimes version, and seeing how this is easily one of my favorite horror films, I want a SE. Tobe Hooper is always more than willing to provide extras too, and I'm sure he'd jump at the chance to do so for this one, his second best film.
Wow ! That makes it 10 noir releases in July alone ! I wish Fox would jump on the bandwagon and release Laura.
I wonder what happened to the other noirs featuring Alan Ladd and Veronika Lake (The Glass Key and The Blue Dahlia). I would have expected them to be released at the same time as This Gun for Hire.
I will definitely be picking up Double Indemnity, The Big Clock and This Gun for Hire. I have seen Criss Cross and wasn't too impressed with it.

Any ideas as to which films will be included in this 4-pack?
Don Knotts 4-Movie Reluctant Hero Pack
I believe there are currently 5 DVD's in the Universal Donn Knotts Comedy Classics series: The Ghost And Mr. Chicken, The Reluctant Astronaut, The Shakiest Gun In The West, The Love God and How To Frame A Figg...
Can anyone confirm whether Universal plans to repackage these current discs (and if so, which one will be left out), or will this be exclusive content to DVD?
Also:
Cryptkeeper's Deadly Duo Pack
Any ideas as to whether this will be a double-feature disc or a repackaging with the two current DVD's in some sort of box-set?
that's what i was expecting too. oh well- i won't complain, i've been wanting a good copy of TGFH ever since i ordered a defective LD of it about 13 yrs ago and was never able to get a replacement. Big Clock is another good one. actually, given Universals price structure on these, unless there is some quality control breakdown (with Universal this is a distinct possiblity), i'll buy them all.
who would have expected all this dark goodness in the heart of summer?
the Halloween titles aren't bad. The Sentinel is something i wasn't expecting. if its OAR i would finally check it out. looking forward to finally seeing SSSSSS, a movie i've known about since i was a kid reading Famous Monsters on the schoolbus home. The Legacy has Sam Elliott so it can't be totally unwatchable.
i do hope this isn't it as far as their Horror/monster titles go, but i do have to wonder. i was really hoping for a Kolchak Season box set to tie in with van Helsing (both were monster hunters, looked like a no brainer to me), and MGM was going to release the tv movies on their label this summer as well. i would think there would never be a better time to release it if they ever planned too.
but its still good to see them cracking out the Noirs finally.
As long as it's a decent transfer, I won't mind. Sure, it deserves 2-disc SE treatment and a Lowry Digital cleanup & 4k transfer, but hey, just a GOOD transfer will be appreciated.
