What is the difference between a monitor out and a video out?(it is on my receiver)

I'm not sure about your specific product (if you'd like to post the model, I'm sure someone can offer specific advice)-- but often the monitor output is designed to go to your TV- while Video outputs are loop outputs to send to recording devices such as VCRs.

These video sends don't usually send the on screen display stuff for the receiver-- where the monitor sends do.

Most receivers have a set of audio and video outputs intended to go to a VCR.
