I am using the Comcast DCT-6412 DVR and have some questions about the RCA inputs on the rear of the unit. According to my local comcast, these inputs are not active. However, I have also been told that the firewire ports are not active, yet I know people who are outputing their recorded shows to their computer using the firewire. Does anyone know if there is a way to use the A/V inputs on the unit?

Due to air conditioning problems, I had to move my STB into another room and the TV only has one A/V input. If I want to watch a DVD I must switch the cables in the back. I thought maybe the AV inputs on the STB could be used. Is there a way around this without using a RF modulator for the DVD player and connecting it to the TV RF input.

AV inputs are not active on the Comcast 6412s.

If you have limited inputs, get an AV switch. You can get a cheap manual mechanical one or more expensive electronic with remote and/or automatic switching.
