This is something that's been bugging my mom for a while. Why is the boss character carry the name of Zed? As opposed to Zee which is the correct American word for the last letter of the alphabet. My mom thinks it's some subtle Canadian reference inserted by some crazy canuck, but I think it's just used because Zed sounds cooler than Zee. (I certainly think it does...)

    Any thoughts on this?

Does the audio commentary give any insight? Probably not. Anyway canada is halfway between the UK and the US adopting the ways of both nations and their.... differing languages.

I think it's a combination of both the fact that, AFAIK, much of English-speaking world outside of the U.S. pronounces it "zed" and that "Zed" is a cooler name for Rip Torn than "Zee."

Zed is often used in scientific and mathematic discussion, so it may have made sense in the Sci-Fi world to use it instead.

Zed is the French name for the letter "Z" and could be similar in other languages (such as Latin, which would be the source of the scientific name).
