I read in Roger Ebert's review of The Third Man (in his "The Great Movies" series of articles) that there are plans for a remake. Is this true? I don't know when Ebert wrote that piece, so I'm not sure how old this info is. Has there been any other information made public about whether or not this is actually going to happen? I can't help but thinking this is a horrible idea, although I would probably be first in line to see it, just out of curiosity.

If it's the quack who directed the remake of The Magnificent Ambersons...

We need to borrow one of the Rosebud sleds from Steven Speilberg and beat the sense out of this maniac!

Imagine "The Third Man Theme" done hip-hop style. And color! And 5.1 Sound! And state of the art digital effex! And a DVD with 5 hours of extras! Whoopie!

Yeah, and think of the CGI potential! This could use a total makeover to appeal to today's more sophisticated movie-going audiences. We need lots of SFX, and some explosions fer chrissakes! The old movie is in black-and-white (like, yeccch man!). And the Criterion disc doesn't have anything like any music-video extras. I feel, like, you know, deprived or something, man. Give me some subwoofer action, you know--like, why spend money to see an old black-and-white movie anymore? Yeah, like, let's bring on the color remake.

This is as dumb an idea as the Psycho remake. Why would you remake a movie that is already perfect? [IMG]

I don't think it's been mentioned on this forum, but another classic, The Manchurian Candidate, is being remade.

Come to think of it, if they replaced that maddening zither score with library music, I might actually like it better. I love this film, but I swear it works in spite of rather than in any way because of that #&@% zither music.

    Regards,

Re: The Manchurian Candidate. It's being produced by Tina Sinatra, Frank's daughter. It's quite ironic because she was vehemently against the remake of Ocean's 11. Go figure!

P.S. Could it be because the Sinatra children own the film rights?

Well, I guess if the remake of Charade goes well, why not?

Why is a remake of Charade being made?

It's a remake of North By Northwest already!!!

Actually, while you'd have to completely change the film (obviously), anyone up for persuading Fox to do a version of Kane with a thinly disguised Murdoch?

(watch out for the low-flying pig!)
