Prequels can be tricky propositions, but A Quiet Place: Day One takes us into a world on a road we’d only seen hinted at before. It delivers more expansive visuals and the key ingredients that have enabled the A Quiet Place universe to stand out. But what truly sets it apart is its character-focused stakes, which bring the superbly written stories to life. It is a thrilling, impressive, and engrossing film that builds on the excellence of what came before and adds just a dash more about the mysterious creatures while grabbing us by the heart and hand through an engrossing take on human survival. Arriving with a reference quality 4K, this is a must-own release.

This was my favorite of the franchise, completely due to the strength of the character play between Sam and Eric.

One recommendation, though. The deleted/extended scenes among the extras are mostly the usual interesting but not especially essential things that we are given with just about any film. With one exception.

I've little doubt that the final such scene, titled "Poetry at Patsy's" was left out for pacing reasons. I can imagine that if it was left in, it would just bring the tension of the film to a screeching halt. But it's an amazing bit that really helps cement the way these two characters have come to bond. And, oddly enough, it's divorced just enough from the over-arcing story that it could've been presented as it's own nice little short side film.
