“A Quiet Place” (Thanks, #MoviePass!) delivers a taut, suspenseful movie-going experience. Solid flick.

Loved the movie, even with a few warts. One thing I haven't seen mentioned (or missed) in the thread...How did they silently plant all that corn? :D

Sure there was a handful of plot contrivances but so what.

I go to a movie to be entertained and put myself in the movie and it was easy enough with this one.

It was just the right length and it had a good amount of scares.
JK was great and he did a good job making it all work.

    A definite recommendation.

The design of the creature was pretty interesting and really creepy.

I don’t think a movie has to be perfect for it to be good.
Movies can have flaws, plot contrivances, continuity errors etc and still be really good.

Colin I wonder if you go to the movies as just a guy anymore without trying to be a critic and just go with the flow of the movie.

I’m about 98% sure it was the theater but the image looked a tiny bit odd.
Some scenes, mostly on close ups looked slightly squished making faces look wider and shorter then they would look in the real world.

Reminded me of the way faces looked on the Blu-ray of the Peck movie The Big Country from a few years ago.

Sure! There are plenty of movies with dumb points and flaws that I enjoy anyway.

"Quiet Place" was simply way too stupid/illogical for me to buy into it. I don't object to minor flaws - I object to massive leaps of logic that insult my intelligence, which is what happens in this movie.

People here seem to think I go to movies with knives ready and an eagerness to attack, but that couldn't be more wrong.

I love movies. I always want to like what I see - I didn't shell out money to watch "Quiet Place" because I hoped I'd hate it.

I wanted to like it. Based on the trailers and advance reviews, I expected to like it.

Obviously I didn't like it, but that wasn't some predestined opinion.

You can accuse me of being too negative or too jaded or unwilling to "go with the flow" if you like, but isn't it actually possible that I just really disliked the movie for legitimate reasons?

I watched A QUIET PLACE this past Saturday night. The first fifteen minutes (or longer) of almost complete silence almost had be yawning, and regretting I picked this movie over I CAN ONLY IMAGINE.

My major problem with the movie was the reality that had to be erased for us to buy into the story of their being these sightless barbaric-type creatures with sensitive ears. Beyond that, the only thing that bugged me was the silence... and the silence some more! I know that it made sense because they were worried for their lives, but I thought if I have to read subtitles this entire time it's going to put me to sleep!

Overall, I enjoyed A QUIET PLACE, but I'm not particularly jumping to see it again. Had it been more realistic, it would have been more pleasing. Apparently, the critics love it.

The silence? The creatures? As for the first, well, naturally, I figured they would be quiet, but I wasn't expecting sign language necessarily. As for the creatures, that was completely unexpected from all the way around.

I really enjoyed this movie. Thanks, MP.

It is interesting to me the vitriol that some people have for subtitles. I guess since I watch alot of anime and foreign film they don't bother me much.

Question about what people consider to be spoilers:

Would it be a spoiler to discuss
the death of the youngest child?

On one hand, this happens very early in the movie, and I tend to think if something occurs before you've made a dent in your popcorn, it's not "spoiler territory".

On the other hand, it's a pretty major event and one that isn't an inevitable part of the story. It's not like saying "Martians invade" in "War of the Worlds".

Still, I lean toward it not counting as a spoiler, mainly because so much of the movie occurs after the event.

Thoughts about whether this event should be "spoilerized"?

Just got back from seeing this in Dolby Cinema.

Wow!! What a terrific ingenious original thriller. Great suspense, audio design, and especially performances from the gifted cast. I haven’t cared about characters fates this much in a long time.

I don’t dispute others issues with the film. They however did not bother my enjoyment in the least.

It’s the best of the recent “horror” films by a long shot. Mr Krasinski has crafted a gem of a film and a true crowd pleaser. Can’t wait to see what he does next.

Kudos to all involved in the making of this truly satisfying film. See it Dolby Cinema if you can. A tremendous aural/visual presentation.

Yes, it’s a spoiler because it doesn’t matter if it happened early in the film because we use spoilers for people that haven’t watched the film yet.

Unfortunately, Dolby Cinema is restricted from many of us.

Plus it’s a MAJOR plot point which shapes the entire film.

I think yes. Spoiler it. Too early in the run to give that up I think.

I guy who posts reviews on dvdtalk and Blu-ray.com put that out there right at the opening of his review. Bad form if you ask me.
