What does Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP) do for the end user? Can this cause automatic disconnections from the net at a predetermined time?
I just want to know if this is what's causing me to be kicked out of the net after 30 minutes online. This is driving me nuts!!! HELP!!!

CHAP is an authentication method. You're probably most familiar with it via Windows Dial Up Networking. Before CHAP (and PAP), a terminal window would pop up and you'd have to type in your login information (or create a script that would do this for you).

It could be setup to force a disconnect if desired. Is this your ISP? I'd give them a call.
