Ron,

Just wondering if you ever considered putting all your excellent software reviews in one dedicated section. This way, all the reviews would be indexed and easy to find (sort of like Obi's Reviews). Right now, sometimes the user has to go through pages of search results before finding one of your reviews and/or the search function is temporarily down.

Anyway, I'm sure you and others have already considered this. Your reviews are actually the best because they show not only screenshots, but also pictures of the packaging material, menus, bonus features, etc.

Keep up the great work...

Allan:
Ron has a review page set up on the forum that has been around for a couple of years now called Ron's Reviews and be gotten to here and by clicking on the pink Ron's Reviews button on the main page of the forum just below the Home Theater Forum Sponsors banners.

The only unfortunate thing about that page is that it doesn't preserve the forum discussion that follows (I still consider the AI discussion on Ron's reviews to be the best I've ever read), and at the Ron's reviews page, you aren't told if the films have been highly recommended or not.

Adam,

Thanks for the kind words regarding my reviews.

Allan,

While I certainly see the advantage of preserving
threaded discussions regarding my reviewed material
there is no way that I can preserve that on my reviews
page.

You can always go to my review page for quick
reference and then do a forum search to find the
original threaded discussion.

Thanks again gentlemen!

Ron cant you place a link to the "Review thread" at the bottom of the movies review?

That's a good idea. The only problem I see with this is that it might revive a lot of dead threads. I personally don't mind this, but some people might not like having old threads resurrected...

Adam, I decided to look up the A.I. thread and check if there was anything interesting stuff in it since I last read it.
Finally found it (its here) but it took me quite some time to do so.
Links from the review page to the discussion threads would be a great feature.

What about locking & moving the threads to an archive folder, ie. "Ron's Reviews Archive" a certain number of days after the review's been posted, or the DVD released (most discussion of titles usually stops after the film has been released for a week or two)? This way all the review discussions would be in one place, and they wouldn't run the risk of getting deleted.

How about including a link to each review thread in the copy of the review itself on the reviews page?

Guys,

I appreciate all the suggestions.

The problem is this: I don't have the time to
do everything you folks would like me to do with
these reviews.

In order to put links back to the original
discussion thread means I have to manually go back
into the review before transferring it to my reviews
page and type in a link for each one. It may seem
like a simple thing to do, but on top of all my other
responsibilities to my day job and this forum, it is
just something I am not up to doing.

Besides, eventually the database of this forum
is going to be wiped clean of all posts over two
years old. In that case, the links in the reviews
will serve no purpose.

You guys could really help me out by simply using
the forum's search engine to find any discussion of
reviews I have posted on my website.

I am deeply honored that you guys read my reviews
and care so much about them. For me, it's something
I do as a side hobby and really never take my talent
(or lack of) seriously. I enjoy writing reviews that
hopefully will aid you in a purchase or perhaps save
you money you might have spent.

Keep the suggestions coming.

Oh Ron you big ball baby, you need to quit that day job thing, it's taking way too much time away from what's really important here. I always said it would never amount to much!;)
BTW what do you do work wise?

I work for the Postal Service. Got into it at a
very young age only because I was between jobs and
it turned out to be a great opportunity for me at
the time. As much as I regret my decision all these
years later, the job has allowed me much freedom in
running this forum. I get 5 weeks of vacation and
an additional 12+ sick days if I choose to take them.

Between that job and this, I easily work 70 hours
a week. Unfortunately, there is no light at the end
of the tunnel for making HTF a full-time job as long
as advertising support declines.

It may not sound much of a life, but I do get great
self-satisfaction watching this forum prosper and
getting compliments about the reviews I post.

I always have said that if I die tomorrow, I have
lived my dreams. This forum has opened the door to
allow me to experience things not many people have
the opportunity to experience.

Thanks

I'm glad to hear that Ron. I've always said that if I die tomorrow, I died too young. :)
Anyway, thanks again to you and Parker for having such a great place to hang out. Oh, your reviews are by far my favorite on the web. I like reviews that come from the everyday guy perspective and your screen captures are top-notch.

Forgive me for these pictures. It was getting dark
and the camera really didn't capture just how bright
yellow a car this is.

Ron, some how I pictured you living in a down town New York city apartment and working with computers for a living. I like the car, great color and sorry about the ball baby thing!;)
