At least at CC it isn't edit: in stock. I checked everywhere in NC and they are out of stock and they are out in the main warehouse... hmmm.
Administrative Note:
I've changed the original title of this thread because it contained possibly misleading information regarding this product. My first reaction was to close the thread based on this, but it appears that there is a chance for some informative dialog on the 600 so it stands. In addition I intend to give my Outlaw 950 to Adil along w/ a free sampler from each of our advertisers due to his presence in this forum.
However (and this is addressed to the original poster), in the future be more careful to make sure thread titles contain accurate information.

How does it being out of production at C.C. translate into it being recalled? Did someone at C.C. tell you this or was it relayed by Onkyo? Please don't interrupt this as an attempt to call you out. I am just curious/concerned, because I have this receiver, which I purchased at C.C., and have not heard anything about it.

Any info on why it is being recalled? I doubt it is because of the weak amps?

What's going on? Is this receiver known to have a serious flaw? It's a new receiver, so it couldn't have been discontinued already. Don't leave us hanging! If you know more, tell us! If you don't, tell us that!

Onkyo should have recalled the 797 instead of fixing its problem on a case-by-case basis when 70% to 80% (unofficial numbers found on internet polls in various forums I've seen) of the production run is defective.

Maybe consumer electronics should be regulated like the automotive industry and others in some ways. A car that would stop running completely every minute or two WOULD be recalled I'm pretty sure.

If this is true then, damn this is just great. My 30 days just ended on Friday.

Now what?

I visited my local C.C. today. Unfortunately, neither of the two "electronic specialists" could give me any information regarding this topic.
The most I got, was that C.C. main offices said that they were no longer stocking the SR600 as of a week or so ago. However, now there is word that they will again stock that model? However, neither of the two could confirm that this was due to a recall of any kind.
It's funny though, because in there demo display, they had a SR600 that they were using. No one could explain that to me either.

Ok, I just got back. Tomorrow, I'll ask if it's actually being recalled. All I know is that in the system it has been designated as Out of Production (OOP). If you ever check a price at CC and it ends in a .95 or .96 instead of a .99 it means it's going out of inventory soon.

The recall was a natural assumption. Maybe just CC is dropping the Onkyo 600. I doubt it. I'll make some calls. Ok.

Uhh... 30 days is not in stone, but it is policy. They are still using the 600 as a display. I've heard it and have not had any issues powering the satellites to reference.

Adil,

Thanks much. I was thinking that also, that perhaps CC is just not dealing with Onkyo anymore. Best Buys I heard was supposed to start carrying them. So it is possible they just won't anymore. I know they are still available at circuit city online.

I would hate to have to return it, not only because it would really suck having to look again for a reciever but I really like the reciever. It would be bad hearing there might be something wrong with them.

note: I worked at CC a few years ago to help pay my way through school.

CC typically marks a product as OOP (ending in .95) if they are almost out of stock in the main warehouses. If it is going out of production, the .95 usually accompanies a price cut. If it is a risk recall, they pull all units from the stores (including the demo). My guess is that they are running low on inventory.

I called Onkyo product support and according to one person it is not being discontinued. I heard that before with the 595 even after hearing from several sources they are being discontinued. Something tells me if it was going out of production they wouldn't say so anyway.

Yeah typical reply.

That is basically what they told me on the phone when I called them this morning.

Again they also said this when the rumours were rampant about the 595 going out of print.

Ummm. I'll make some calls tomorrow, but the manager said they are either having supply problems or they are defective. He doesn't see them having supply problems. It is an interesting problem that no one has been updated on. Sorry about the title.

Sidenote: Even if I'd bought the Onkyo, I'd exchange it for the HK AVR125 which was going temporarily for 299. HK amps are better... to me.

I would seriously doubt that Best Buy will carry Onkyo in the near future. They just picked up Kenwood and they already have Yamaha. Jason
