Searched but couldn't quite find an answer. I have my surrounds essentially in a null posisiton (beside me...perhaps back 6 inches or so). Unfortunately, with my room placement, I can't get a fantastic front stereo image where my seating is. If I move my seating forward, my soundstage improves greatly. My surrounds are unfortunately tethered pretty solidly where they are, so they will end up being a couple of feet behind my seated position.

Generally speaking, how far forward can one move from their rears to keep them in "optimal" position? Obviously it is a personal preference to an extent, but I am just looking for other's experience before I start moving everything around and recalibrating.

    Thanks.

That helps visually...but how do I translate my environment into degrees from sweetspot?

I believe the general consensus around here is (for the sides)anywhere from directly to the side up to a foot behind and about 1-2 feet above ear level. Of course it all depends on your room set up. This is all if you have direct radiating speakers (monopole).

I have limited space so I have to do directly to the sides.
