Me and my boys were watching "IT, the Monster from beyond space", last night. Unfortunately its P&S, normally I don't buy P&S movies but I love vintage Sci-Fi, and this movie is as great an example of the genre as I can think. Anyway, we're watching the movie when out of the blue, my 8 yr. old says he prefers movies with the black bars on top and bottom!!! I was amazed! We watch alot of movies together, and he understands OAR!! Just thought I pass it along.

No it's not. The OAR is 1.37:1!

I thought it was because it opened with the message stating it was formatted to fit the screen. The fact that its not P&S makes an already good movie much, much better!!

Talk about bringing 'em up right. And you're startin' 'em young. Good job, Todd.

It! is open matte. Most films form that age were indeed filmed in 1:37:1, but INTENDED for 1:85:1 matting in theatrical exhibition, especially drive-ins. So, MGM could have widescreened it (like they did the chapter stop pictures) and anamorphically enhanced it.
