Eventually when these are available (when they settle on a format) will they be backwards compatable with exsisting DVD's?
I haven't read too much about it and just wanted to know.
Thanks

Since no standards has been established any answer you get will be a complete guess. However I think it would be incredibly stupid for them to not be backward compatible.

The only wrinkle is if they place HD-DVDs inside a protective catridge.

Funny how whenever technology advances, it always takes a step backwards. Imagine when HD-DVD comes out and we have to play our old DVDs by opening a caddy first sticking the disc in and then put the caddy into player. I haven't used a CD-ROM caddy since 1995, so it looks like a trip to the past again.:)

It would have to be backwards compatible, much like a DVD player playing an audio CD conceptwise.
