    How disappointing, that's exactly what I thought a 1 Gigglepixel pixture to look like. I really don't see what the big deal is, I already own a 3.2 gigglepixel camera with a 40 gig optical zoom.

    Those 3.2 gigglepixel cameras aren't to shabby, but what the heck is a 40 gig optical zoom? [IMG]

    Uhm, what you were looking at wasn't a 1 gigapixel image.

    "Gigapixel." Must we use that meaningless marketing term?

    Does your camera break out laughing like a Tickle Me Elmo when you push it's buttons?

    There are no commercially available cameras that even approach 1 gigapixel.

    The best cameras are in the range of 6 megapixels.

    Mega = 1,000,000 (Million)
    Giga = 1,000,000,0000 (Billion)

    1,000,000,000 is about 167 times bigger than 6,000,000!

    Chris: Actually, the best DSLR is 11 megapixels, and there are digital backs for medium format cameras that go well over 20. Of course, the Canon EOS 1Ds (the 11mp DSLR) is $8000 and the digital backs go well over $20,000.

    And I think Greg*go had his tounge in his cheek [IMG]

    It would be nice if we could download the full size 1gp image but that would be one heck of a download [IMG] The idea is cool but I think stitching that many images together would be extremely tedious and not really worth it unless you're intending to print some HUGE poster size prints that people look at from a foot away. Even 6mp is sufficient for most standard photo prints. I will check out that software though the next time I get the photo bug, it would be nice for some smaller panoramas [IMG]

    must you leave out the details of why you think it isnt a gigapixel? and where else have you heard this term before so excessively, you seem annoyed that we even used it. my camera captures images at 2448 x 1632, or just under 4 mp. the image he stitched together is 40784 x 26800, or 1.093 gp. isnt this a gigapixel image? am i missing something?his gp image may not have been captured all at once, but it is still a billion pixels. anyway, i think this is a pretty cool idea, and i applaud the guy for all his hard work.
