An earlier thread said this release was cancelled, yet it still show as available for preorder from Amazon with a date of August 1.

Anyone know what the status is?

    Thanks.

Why do studios keep jerking us around when it comes to popular titles that should have been redone years ago (True Lies)...?

Phew I'm glad I still have my region 2 that I picked up in Amsterdam a few years ago. The deleted scenes are hilarious, especially with the Kevin Kline shooting the cats tails off, lol.

Got this from one of my Sony/ MGM contacts:

So it sounds like it'll still come out at some point!

That will never happen. Fierce Creatures is a Universal title, while A Fish Caled Wanda is an MGM title.

Still, Fierce Creatures needs a better edition. One that's in widescreen. I would also like to see the film's original ending that I keep reading about as well.

Region-free players are cheap as dirt, and both of these discs (Fish SE and wide Creatures) have been available for years on R2 DVD. Every memeber here should have a second machine dedicated to playback of multi-region/format discs. There's so much you're denying yourself otherwise.

I suppose you're right. I guess it's something you jump into all the way or not at all.

    Something to think about...

Perhaps you could open a new thread called 'Essential R2 DVDs for R1 Viewers'.

When people see the sheer number (?) of titles, you might spark a movement.

I can get around region codes, but I hate PAL speedup. [IMG]

Arrrgghh!! I was wondering why I hadn't seen much on this one recently. I was going to pick this release up since I love Fish, but don't care for the current bare edition. At least there's hope it may see the light of day with a release later in the Fall, but it really is aggravating.

Andrew, the region 2 special edition has been pitch-corrected on the soundtracks. The sound still runs 4% faster, but the pitch has been lowered to the original level - and the 5.1-track, despite having been upmixed from the mono sources, sounds terrific. There's no reason to avoid the R2 SE because of pal-speedup!

The movie runs at 25fps, but the pitch has been lowered to the original level. This actually works because it makes the speedup barely noticeable - it's just the higher pitch level that is annoying, not the speed itsself. The R2 Wanda SE has the best sound encoding which is possible on a PAL disc.

I left my preorder up at Amazon, and I got a shipment notice overnight. Very strange. Someone else at DVDTalk reported the same thing.

I'll be quite interested to see what's in the box. I hoping that since this was cancelled so close to release, maybe Amazon got some tock and decided to just put it out.

    We'll see.

    EricKa,
    Thanks!

    Andrew,
Hopefully, you won't get the previous disc.
