I love it when the presentation credits preceding the main title of a film are almost out of control.

Wind River is a wonderfully humorous example. They read as follows:

Acacia Entertainment Presents in Association with Synergics Films The Fyzz Facility Riverstone Pictures Voltage Pictures Wild Bunch Star Thrower Entertainment and Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana A Savvy Media Holdings Thunder Road Film 44 Production

Fortunately, all of these production entities has created a quality production, which brings to the fore problems being faced by Native Americans.

The film stars Jeremy Renner as a Fish and Wildlife investigator, linked with FBI agent Elizabeth Olsen.

One of the things that's nice to see, and works beautifully here, is the depth of Native Americans appearing in the film, the most recognizable being the superb Graham Greene.

If Lawrence of Arabia led theater-goers to joke about management raising the temperature in theaters, and adding more salt to popcorn to sell more drinks, Wind River is the opposite, as cold is palpable.

Shot in Utah and Wyoming, it depicts winter in those environs, as a dangerous place to visit.

With imagery captured with an Arri Alexa XT Plus, and finished as a 2k DI, the resultant Blu-ray is a gorgeous affair, and perfect in every way.

While you may not find yourself tapping your toes after screening (unless you're checking for frostbite), the presentation will leave you with something to consider.

I viewed this film twice in a movie theater. One of the best if not the best film I watched this past year. Based on what happened with Hell or High Water, I'm going to pass on this Blu-ray release and just wait for the 4K/UHD release. I'm not going to get burn twice.

Do Lionsgate 4K releases always lag behind their Blu-ray releases? That’s not very nice! Other studios release both formats concurrently.

No, box office winners like La La Land, Hacksaw Ridge and John Wick: Chapter 2 were released the same day. However, films like Hell or High Water, Moonlight and probably Wind River are not so fortunate for what ever reason.

And that's after Taylor Sheridan convinced the Weinstein Company to drop its name from the credits!

I teach Native American History and Cultures and the final assignment is an analysis of cinematic portrayals of indigenous peoples in North America. The students pick from a list of films spanning nearly a century of production and the gamut of historical topics. This film will make a fine addition to the section on contemporary issues, along with Skins, by Chris Eyre. It will contrast well with earlier films to chart shifts in how non-aboriginal filmmakers present indigenous people and cultures on film.

It helps that the film is excellent in its own right, as cinema.

I thought this was an excellent movie when I saw it in the theater, and am glad that it got a quality home release, as well as a thumbs up (apologies to Roger Ebert) from our very own RAH as well!

We watched this wonderful film last night. The writing, acting, cinematography and direction all contribute to this being one of the movies of last year. I look forward to viewing it many times in the years to come.

Definitely agree about all the production credits. So many films I've watched recently have endless animated logos to wade through and then after that is done, we see credits a second time for each production company. It can take several minutes before the credits proper start and the movie begins. At least at home there is a fast forward button.

I first watched the film two or three times on Netflix. Then, when I feared it was going to leave the service, I bought the Blu-ray. The streaming Netflix version was superior for me in every respect, but at least I have the movie to watch whenever I want.
