Thanks Wayne, Robert. Yes, it looks like a goof. And I understand Robert that all this nitpicking takes from the fun from enjoying the movies.

Here's the scene from YouTube, the pre-restoration atomic bomb explosion has the white flash of the bomb exploding. This is not in the new restoration.

The clean up software probably thought it was a glitch that needed correcting.

If that footage was scanned from the OCN(s), the flash wouldn't have been there in the first place, and it's an error of omission rather than commission, since they would have needed to add it themselves. All of the optical work in the film was scanned from dupe elements that would contain finished effects like that, but I'm not sure if the first shot would have been from the IP or whatever they used, or come from the OCN(s) instead. I'd have to pull out my UHD and look at just that first shot.

Thanks, your thinking of the OCN being scanned and that the flash was not there and wasn’t added makes sense.
