Two David Fincher films from Columbia concurrently. Both upgraded to 4k UHD. One from film, the other from RED files.

Easy review.

The Social Network, a film with a brilliant screenplay, and all other attributes at an equal level, is breathtaking in 4k.

Beautiful imagery.

Great Atmos track.

Pretty Steelbook.

And all in all, reference quality.

Image (Dolby Vision)

Forensic - 10
NSD - 10

Audio – 10 (Dolby Atmos)

Pass / Fail – Pass

Plays nicely with projectors - Yes

Makes use of and works well in 4k - 10

Upgrade from Blu-ray - Yes

Worth your attention - Yes

Slipcover rating - Steelbook

Looks like Film - n/a

Very Highly Recommended

Mr Harris
Is this release different from the Sony box set 4K from years ago?
I Never owned it, but don't remember that it had DV or atmos sound.

I own the sound track in 5.1 96/24...
It's hypnotic and beautiful.

So it must translate wonderfully here...

The Columbia Classics sets have featured Atmos remixes for the majority of the films that they include, the earliest films excepted. And Sony is the best in the business at remixing for Atmos while still retaining the essential character of the original mixes. In this case, it's a definite step up over 5.1. The music benefits the most. They drew the haunting sounds that Reznor and Ross created further around the viewer.

The soundtrack is so good, I purchased it on CD, back in the day! Reznor and Ross' soundtrack for last year's Challengers was also truly exceptional!

... Minor Korrection it's Von Karajan & I believe this is the recording you are referring to

That is exactly the one I am talking about.

Thanks, yes, I usually dictate to my phone, which causes a fantastic myriad of problems.

It understands Herbert but interprets Vin Karajan as “ Vaughan Carahan “

😊

But thank you.

He recorded all nine symphonies three separate times, Herbert Von Karahan with the Berlin Philharmonic.

1953, 1962 & 1977

(Pretty sure on the first two dates there )

Now I believe he did another one in the 80s,
But in my opinion, the true power resides in the 1977 performance.
Are you a fan?

He’s is a tremendous conductor, especially with “lovely Lovely Ludwig Von…”
- Alex, Clockwork
And with Mozarts Requiem or Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons with Anne Sophie Mutter

"Winter"
Tremendous, powerhouse.

This GIF below is from a television special he filmed.
Directed by French Director Henri Georges Clouzot.

They became friends and filmed, quite a few productions together, which were brilliant if you can find them.
Karajan wanted to convey to the audience what each piece of the symphony was doing during each sequence

And every production after this one got more and more complex

They ended up putting 500 W bulbs under the seats of each of the performers in the Orchestra
During one production, I can't remember which

And… Filmed from overhead… When a section was being played, the lights underneath the performers would turn on

It's sensational to watch, I had a copy and lost it unfortunately

Anyway, are you a fan?

As an artist he was amazing ... as a person ...not so much .... Yes I have that CD and a number of other recordings he recorded with EMI as as well as DG mostly released as "mid-priced" CDs - including the Beethoven 9th being discussed...
You may want to see if you can find the movie/film Taking Sides https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taking_Sides_(film) Von Karajan is a mostly off-screen character ...

Definitely The Social Network remains a powerful essay which has ruminations to current events ...

I will look for it.
Thanks.
I agree.
After admiring the 1977 Ninth, I started to collect some of his work, I loved the power.

Then I did some research into him

I was disturbed. He was not a person I admire for his life choices and stances.

Agreed also about the social network, I remember seeing it first showing the day it opened

So much information I knew I needed to watch it twice more.

25 years later, I admire it more and more. Very prevalent to today.
