A bit more than two years ago, Warner Home Video released Wolfgang Petersen's The Perfect Storm for the first time in High Definition on the HD format.
As one of the early 1080i masters that made it through the system in error, it was still a reasonably solid, if imperfect release. As an early release, I tended to be a bit forgiving.
Finally arriving in Blu-ray, the film has, according to Warner, been re-mastered and looks better, if still a bit soft in areas, possibly as a result of attempts to hide digital work, and to make the efx more cohesive with the rest of the film.
All in all, a quality transfer for Blu, but not one that will be brought out as a demo.
