Michael Mann's The Insider is a real-world thriller about corporate America, broadcasting, and the tobacco industry. Occasionally releases of Disney's Touchstone division, can be like a box of chocolates. Quality can vary. Fortunately, this one is terrific on all levels. Image is exceedingly film-like, with superb color, densities, shadow detail, and grain structure. Audio, in DTS-HD MA seems perfect. This is an entertaining film, with superb acting, and stylistic cinematography courtesy of Dante Spinotti. Great film. Beautiful Blu-ray. And at under $15 street a great value. Image - 5 Audio - 5 Highly Recommended. RAH

Mr. Harris, any word on special features for this release? Amazon.com lists a production featurette as well as an audio commentary, but as far as I can tell, this never had a commentary before, so I'm curious. Thanks in advance!

The BD copies the inaccurate listings from the DVD. The BD includes the production featurette and promises "Inside a Scene" but doesn't provide it.
So we get the 7-minute production featurette, the trailer and some "Sneak Peeks" - that's it.
I agree with RAH that it's a terrific transfer...

Is this the legitimate original cut of the film? No post-release tinkering by seemingly never-satisfied Michael Mann? Vincent

I was aware that Mann continued to tinker with this film.
Looking forward to the BR.

I don't think Mann has tinkered with "Insider" - I suspect Vincent's concerns relate to Mann's refusal to let some other films remain "as is". IMDB lists no "alternate versions" of "Insider"...

Love this film and I think it may be Mann's best. Would love to see Thief make it to blu as well!

There was a long-standing rumor that Criterion was going to release THIEF at some point. Don't know what's happening with that.
