With the news hitting the wires, that the complete Joss Wedon TV series, Buffy (DVD) and Firefly (BD), will arrive mid-September from Fox, timing is perfect to revisit Drew Goddard's The Cabin in the Woods, a veritable cornucopia of horror elements that was released back in 2011.

Lionsgate has seen the wisdom in re-issueing the film, now in 4k, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos, and the final result is a major upgrade.

While I can't yet comment on Dolby Vision, (I'm viewing in HDR10) having the re-mix inclusive of overhead channels in a film with a great deal of action and audio above and below, sends this films to the absolute upgrade category.

For those who never went for the Blu-ray, this should be a no-brainer, especially for those who love horror.

Audio - 5 (Dolby Atmos)

4k - 5

Upgrade - Absolutely

Pass / Fail - Pass

Lionsgate also has the wisdom in properly pricing their 4K/UHD releases unlike studios like Warner for instance.

Just for clarity in case anyone reads that and gets too excited, these are repackagings of the existing discs, not new transfers or masters. There are apparently some new phsyical extras in the packaging, but the disc content remains the same. Firefly is fine as is, but Buffy could use an HD upgrade - sadly, the company that Fox hired to do the HD upgrade did a very poor job, and the SD DVDs are preferable to their terrible HD masters which are available for streaming.
