I'm not usually into trauma horror. That centipede film didn't do it for me.

But Parker Finn's sequel to his 2022 Smile works nicely, as there's actually a viable screenplay.

Like the original, it's shot digitally in large format, with a 2:1 aspect ratio, and looks terrific in projection. It will probably appear even better on Mr. Crawford's panel as it's encoded for Dolby Vision, a format that my projector refuses to acknowledge.

Paramount has released Smile 2 in Steelbook format, so collectors will be after the first pressing. Grab one before they hit eBay. I recently had to hit Goat for a pair of sneakers I desired, and it's best not to go to the secondary market.

Interesting, and thought provoking project and a gorgeous 4k UHD Blu-ray.

Audio is huge and proscenium filling in Dolby Atmos.

For those who can't wait, Smile 3 is reportedly in pre-production.

Image (Dolby Vision)

Forensic - 10
NSD - 10

Audio – 10 (Dolby Atmos)

Pass / Fail – Pass

Plays nicely with projectors - Yes

Makes use of and works well in 4k - 10

Worth your attention - I believe so

Slipcover rating - Steelbook

Looks like Film - It's digital

With a video processor (Lumagen or Envy), you can watch DV on your projector via LLDV. I do this with the Envy and my projector... and it looks outstanding.

It can be done without a VP, but it's more hit and miss.
